My Mission
I believe in helping children gain confidence in their ability to succeed through effective tutoring. Connecting with children and making a difference in their academic lives is my passion. I have over 25 years of teaching experience in both the public and Montessori school systems, am trained in the Orton Gillingham approach to teaching reading and have used a multisensory teaching approach my whole career. I am now tutoring students in the Evergreen and Conifer areas to increase their reading confidence and competency. Please browse this website for more information on my teaching methods and educational philosophy.
Common Problems
My child's teacher suggests that we find a tutor
I know how to assess where a child is and where we need to go to be at grade level.
How do I find a qualified tutor?
The important things to look for: Orton Gillingham trained, experience in the classroom, and someone who thoroughly enjoys working with kids!
My child doesn't seem to understanding what he is reading
Working with a trained reading teacher is key to getting at the root problem of your child's struggles.
My child was diagnosed with dyslexia and I have no idea where to start
Start with your child's school - they may begin an IEP or a 504 plan to help with accommodations at school.
My child is falling behind in school
Working with a teaching professional can make all the difference in helping your child catch up - the sooner the better!
How often does my child need a tutor?
To be able to make significant progress, 1 to 2 times a week consistently is key.
